SABIAN Cymbals

About SABIAN Cymbals
SABIAN is all about designing and creating cymbals and sounds that are right for you.
Known as the ‘modern, innovative cymbal maker with traditional roots,’ we combine expertise and craftsmanship with creative vision, to design award-winning cymbals that make SABIAN the choice of such leading drummers as Chad Smith, Jack DeJohnette, Mike Portnoy, Dave Weckl, and Neil Peart, as well as percussion greats Evelyn Glennie DBE, Bob Becker, Ney Rosauro, Li Biao, Dennis DeLucia and Ralph Peterson, among many others around the world. Check out our Artist section for these, and more, great artists that choose SABIAN to create their sound. They - like you - can choose their cymbals from the comprehensive range of unique and personal sounds offered by SABIAN.
SABIAN was founded in late 1981, when one of the world’s great names in cymbal making, Bob ‘Sabian’ decided drummers deserve better cymbals. Not happy with the quality, sound and relevance of cymbals made at that time, he launched SABIAN. Located in the small eastern Canadian village of Meductic, New Brunswick, SABIAN - most notably The Vault, where cymbals are designed - has since become the global center for cymbal and sound innovation. Our ongoing program of discovery and design means today’s drummers and percussionist have a larger-than-ever selection of interesting and innovative cymbals to choose from, with models ranging from vintage to modern, from highly personalized to whatever you need.
SABIAN is a ‘team’… a ‘family’, with many members – a growing number with over 20+ years experience - absolute masters of their craft. Even the ‘SABIAN’ name is family, comprised of the first two letters from the names of each of Bob’s three children - SA (Sally), BI (Billy), AN (Andy). Today, Andy is the president of SABIAN, with Bob serving as chairman. And those rings appearing in the SABIAN logo? They represent the grooves cut into the surface of a cymbal.
Because sounds matters you will not only discover a wide range of cymbals and percussion pieces on this site (yes, you can hear their sounds as well), you will recognize that SABIAN innovation is all about creating new sounds that matter. Listen to the Artisan Ride and discover dark, tonal complexity. Or crash a multi-holed O-Zone for a combination crash/chinese response. The X-treme Crash produces raw glassiness, while the X-Plosion Crash delivers with power. And there are hundreds of other models, both traditional and innovative, producing vintage and modern sounds for every style of drummer and percussionist.
Today, with offices and depots dotted around the globe and distribution to approximately 120 countries, SABIAN is what Bob ‘Sabian’ and his family intended. But for us that is just the start. Ask why SABIAN exists, the answer is easier than ever: ‘Because Sound Matters.’

About Mapex Drums
One man turned to another, shook his head in amazement and said, “You know, I just never expected to see so much detailed, handcrafted work.”
This nearly unanimous sentiment was expressed repeatedly among a select group of Mapex retailers upon a recent visit to the Mapex manufacturing facilities in Tianjin, China. They discovered for themselves that Mapex drums are actually handcrafted by hundreds of dedicated employees who skillfully apply their talent and expertise to their craft.
All Mapex products are hand built and hand assembled by the artisans at its wholly owned factory. The people at Mapex have earned a distinguished reputation for designing, engineering and building the highest quality acoustic drums. In fact, Mapex is one of the only companies of its kind to have earned ISO9001 certification – the world’s standard for manufacturing excellence.
Building the highest quality product initially depends on the expertise of those that select the raw materials – in particular, the wood. This is why the Mapex Professional Wood Grading Team selects only the finest raw materials to build its drums. Premium grade hardwoods like maple, walnut, birch and basswood are hand-selected from worldwide sources and are then matched by skilled experts to ensure that every drum Mapex produces carries with it the signature tonal and resonant properties that define the distinctive Mapex sound.
Mapex not only wants you to sound your best, you need to look great too. On all of its painted drums, Mapex finish experts hand apply an eight-coat, hand-rubbed, high-gloss lacquer to each shell. Mapex finishes are durable, easy to maintain and will help make you the envy of your drumming community.
The employees at Mapex apply the same high standard of quality across the entire family of products. Every Mapex drum, regardless of price, is built to exacting specifications. Mapex has created a working environment that encourages growth, spirit and dedication to craftsmanship. The people that make Mapex drums are the best at what they do and they take pride in their ability to do it.
The result is a drum that you take on stage or into the studio with complete confidence that your style and creativity will be not only perfectly reproduced, but enhanced. With your Mapex drum set, your talents and personality will be faithfully delivered to your audience, whether you’re playing to a crowd of twenty or twenty-thousand. You’ll ultimately take as much pride in owning a Mapex drum as the expert builders did when it was made.
TASCAM
About TASCAM
For more than 30 years, TASCAM has developed products for every segment of the sound and music industry. From the high-end audio professional in a major post-production studio to the novice or hobbyist at home, TASCAM is everywhere. We are a company committed to providing our customers audio/video solutions that enable breakthroughs by using sound in ways that are as exciting as they are accessible. In short, we provide tools that let people translate their creativity into reality.
After virtually creating the home recording scene during the early 1970s, TASCAM went on to achieve recognition for pioneering products in the professional recording arena as well. Our legacy of product development and innovation is reflected in the sheer number of industry firsts we’ve achieved, including:
- the first 1/2-inch, 4-track cassette recorder
- the first 8-track, reel-to-reel/mixer combo
- the first R-DAT recorder
- the first MiniDisc digital multitracker and CD scratcher
As evidenced by the awards and professional recognition we’ve received, TASCAM products are clearly in a class by themselves. Our MMR-8 digital audio dubber for the motion picture industry won an Oscar® at the Scientific and Technical Academy Awards in 2001 – based largely on its contribution to the Dolby Surround EX final mix for “The Lord of the Rings.” TASCAM also won Emmy Awards in 1995 (for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development for the TASCAM DA-88 Digital Multitrack Recorder) and 2000 (for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development for the MMR-8 and MMP-16).
Company History
TASCAM is one of four divisions of TEAC Corporation, a $1.2 billion manufacturing company headquartered in Japan. Since its founding in 1953, other divisions of TEAC have evolved into high-tech leaders in data storage devices, consumer electronics tools and industrial products, but TASCAM has remained dedicated to making innovative products for capturing creativity in the field of music and audio.
During the formative years in the early ’70s, the music scene was flourishing. Musicians who wanted to showcase their talents and abilities to the recording industry needed a cost effective means to record their music. However, most musicians could afford neither the expense of recording in a professional recording studio nor the asking price of professional recording equipment. Realizing the dilemma facing these musicians, TASCAM adopted a philosophy of manufacturing recording equipment that offered the uncompromising quality and durability of professional studio equipment while remaining affordable to the masses.
Looking Forward
As TASCAM enters its fourth decade in the music industry, we plan to make our future closely mirror our history. It’s about dedication. We will continue our commitment to provide our long time customers with the technology they need to Make It Happen, and we will seek to build trust with new loyal followers, too. Our collective ear will be kept to the ground so we can discover what musicians and industry professionals need – and then we’ll bring it to them. That’s the TASCAM way.
